In 2008 I participated in the Austrian jewellery design contest Juvenarta, where the theme was ”Arabic dreams”.

On the basis of 80 submitted suggestions, 10 of the best were selected, and were to be realised. I won the 6th price for my design ”Veil – no veil”.

The piece consists of a hollow half-moon-shaped necklace in sterling silver, with an Arabic pattern cut out on the front side. Inside the piece is a veil that one may pull out and detach. This way, one have the possibility to decide whether to wear the veil or not – a freedom, which I believe is essential to many women from the Arabic culture. (Click on the picture to enlarge it).
